Guard the Gospel

Paul was in prison because of the gospel. Under pressure and persecution one can easily be tempted to be ashamed of the gospel or change it to avoid persecution. Paul admonished Timothy to do neither. Paul commanded Timothy to not be ashamed of Paul or the gospel and to guard the gospel and sound doctrine.
